Josh Hazlewood and his Australian teammates Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon responded to the new nickname Pacer “Hazlegod”, which he got after his sensational performance during the recently closed IPL 2025 season. Hazlewood was the best RCB pitch.
RCB fans and cricket in India began to call it “hazlegod”, a nickname that Pacer himself hopes that steam will run out quickly. In an interview with the ICC before the World Cup final, he said that while the name is flattering, it does not feel that it will work in Australia.

“Yeah, hopefully it will come from the steam quite fast. It’s flattering, of course, hearing it around the area in India, but I don’t think it would take off in Australia,” Hazlewood said.
“Hopefully it is holding on”
While Hazlewood hopes that the name will die, Mitchell Starc hopes it will not. The Starc said he wanted the name to be held because Hazlewood is not his fan. The left shoulder Pacer said he was looking forward to seeing his teammate in action during the WTC finals in Lork.
“Hopefully he’s holding on because I don’t think he likes it very much. He had a fantastic few months, a big boy in India and came home with bags of money. So I’m looking forward to seeing him in action here,” Starc said in the same video.
While Starc said that Hazlewood was not a nickname fans, Nathan Lyon claimed that Pacer had been described the next day as “Hazlegod” that caught him out of sight. Lyon feels that Hazlewood plans to run with a name.
“Hazlegod, he actually referred to himself as the next day, which surprised me completely. IPL won from behind, I think he is running with him,” Lyon said.
Hazlewood and Australia will be in action When they face South Africa in the WTC final, from 11 June.
