Yograj Singh and MS Dhoni NEW DELHI: In a surprise shift in stance, former India cricketer Yograj Singh has come out in strong support of MS Dhoni, urging the veteran to continue playing in the IPL while targeting those calling for his retirement.A vocal critic of Dhoni in the past, Yograj struck a markedly different tone ahead of IPL 2026. Speaking to InsideSport, he praised Dhoni’s longevity, discipline and dedication to the game and insisted that age should not be a factor in judging a player’s future.

He should continue to play for another 10 years. Because he has proved his mettle. A boy’s discipline, a boy’s dedication. Dedicated,” Yograj said in rare praise of the former Chennai Super Kings skipper. He didn’t hold back when addressing critics either. “Who the hell are people going to tell him to retire? No,” he added, questioning the growing clamor over Dhoni’s future.“The age factor is a lot of fun”Yograj also dismissed the age debate as incorrect in Indian cricket discourse. “When you perform, nobody lets you go. So this age factor that you asked about is very funny in this country, isn’t it?” he said.Interestingly, he even referred to modern day greats like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli while making his point. “Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli… young cricketers and they want to quit. They should really make the world realize that ‘you are the best’,” he remarked.

Which side of MS Dhoni do you admire more?
From critic to admirerThe remarks mark a remarkable U-turn from Yograj, who had previously blamed Dhoni for the premature end of his son Yuvraj Singh’s career. This time, however, he separated personal views from cricketing merit.“A great player, a great captain is different than being a great man… but as far as cricket is concerned… hats off to him,” he said.At 44, Dhoni remains one of the oldest players in the IPL set-up and continues to attract huge fan interest despite a dip in recent performances. While speculation about his retirement resurfaces every season, Yograj’s emphatic support has added a new spin to the ongoing debate.
