Only a few hours after Russian President Vladimir Putin declared an Easter ceasefire to stop bombing Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelskyy said that Russian strikes did not stop in the border areas of Kursk and Belgorod. Ukraine said Russia has violated its own Easter ceasefire and maintained its artillery fire and first line attacks.
In his statement on social media, he said, “Kursk and Belgorod Regions – Putin’s Easter statement did not spread to this territory.”
“Fighting continues, Russian strikes continue.”
While the Russian Easter ceasefire is to last until midnight on Sunday, April 20, in Kiev there were Sirens Air-Raid, indicating violence.
The Ukrainian Governor of the Southern Kherson Region Oleksandr Prokudin claimed that he had launched several drones from the ceasefire from the ceasefire.
Russian Easter
The order to stop all the struggle for Easter weekend came after months of efforts by US President Donald Trump to get Moscow and Kiev to arrange a ceasefire.
On Friday, Washington even threatened to resign from interviews unless there was a progress.
“Today, since 1800 (1,500 GMT) to midnight Sunday (2100 GMT Sunday), the Russian side announces an Easter ceasefire,” Vladimir Putin said earlier on television comments on Saturday.
Vladimir Putin also said that the ceasefire for the Easter holiday celebrated on Sunday was motivated by “humanitarian reasons”.
He said he expected Ukraine to comply, but that Russian units “must be ready to withstand a possible violation of the ceasefire and provocation of the enemy”.
While Zelenky replied by following Ukraine, and proposed an extension of the ceasefire for Sunday, he also accused Russia of violating his promises.
“If Russia is now suddenly ready to participate in a full and unconditional silence format, Ukraine will act accordingly – reflect Russian deeds,” he said.
And just hours after the Easter ceasefire was announced, Ukraine accused Russia of violating him and continuing his strikes and attacking in the border areas.
