Jake Sullivan, a former National Security Adviser (NSA) of the United States, claimed that President Donald Trump had “threw” ties with India over the willingness of Pakistan to trade Trump’s family.
In a recent interview with the YouTube Meidastouch Network Sullivan, he emphasized the importance of the relationship in India and the US and stressed that Trump’s move was prevented by US allies’ confidence in Washington.
“The US was working to build a relationship with India, a country with which we should be in line with technology, talent, economy, and so many things. And we will match with strategic threats from China. Now I think that Pakistani would be possible tomorrow.
Sullivan’s remarks come in the middle of tense ties in India-USA after the Trump administration deposited 50 % of tariffs on Indian goods, including 25 % punishment for buying Russian oil.
Bessnt expresses confidence
Previously, US Minister of Finance Scott Bessnt expressed confidence that India and the US would solve trade friction between them because he believed that the values of the new Delhi were much closer to Washington than China and Russia.
In a television interview, Bessnt downplayed the importance of the Summit of the Organization for Cooperation in Shanghai (SCO) and called it “largely performative”.
“This is a long -term meeting, it is called the organization for cooperation in Shanghai and I think it is largely performed,” Besbent said. “I think at the end of the day India is the most populous democracy in the world. Their values are much closer to and China than Russia.”
White House’s business advisor Peter Navarro attacked India and focused on the Prime Minister of Narendra Modi for meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping. When he talked to reporters, Navarro set PM Modi for what he called “rose in bed with authoritarian” and described the meeting as a disgrace.
At his address at SCO, PM Narendra Modi, he emphasized the need to increase connectivity between members to strengthen trade. “India has always believed that strong connectivity not only increases trade, but also opens up growth and trust doors,” PM Modi said.
