Hartal in AthirapPilly called Janakeeya Samithi and various political parties, who demands a permanent solution to growing incidents of attacks on wild animals on humans and property along the forest edges.
Hartal was called after the deaths of three tribes in the range of 48 hours in Athirappilly. Satheesh and Ambika of Hamlet Sasthampovam were deadly attacked by a wild elephant on Monday evening while collecting wild honey near Vanchikkadava in the Vazhachal Forest division. Just a day earlier, 20 -year -old Sebastian lost his life in a similar incident in Malakappar. All three were temporarily in the forest-old practice during the honey season.
The shops remained closed and public and private transport stopped throughout the region. Hundreds of protesters blocked the road in Vettilapar. The protest was formally inaugurated by President Panchayat KK Rijesh. The police later hit the crowd dispersed and take several demonstrators into custody. The cases were registered against 10 individuals in connection with protest.
