The chairman of the RPG Harsh Goeka group captivated entertainment for an Indian expattering experience and claimed to feel “amazing” after paying for “overpriced chicken butter”. In the paper, which is both relative and satirical, Goenka introduced many irony that came with life abroad for Indians – where cultural nostalgia often knocks high prices and unpredictable habits.
“The Indians are moving abroad to eat overpriced butter from Pandjab with a false Italian accent,” Goen began, capturing culinary confusion, which often accompanies the diaspora. He added that everyday clamps come to the bonus: “Buy a Haldi and Hing, which costs more than a bottle of wine.”
The post continues to attract entertainment in cultural modifications: “Miss Golgappas while chewing on the sad quinoa,” and “Celebrate Diwali as if it were Met Gala – Minus Celebrity, plus Aunt in Swarovski Sarees.”
Goenka didn’t stop there. He underlined the tendency of many immigrants to cluster with his own, wrote: “Create only Indian friends and discuss how better things are at home.
In his last Punch line Goenka summed up the irony with: “And then save in dollars … just fly back and tell your parents how amazing life is.”
The post received mixed reactions, and many who have experienced or witnessed this pattern said, “That’s so accurate,” and “I feel so visible.”
Several users also expressed their disagreement with the harsh post of Goenka and pointed out that they did not reflect the experience of all NRI.
“This is not true for all NRIs. I stay in Dubai and it still looks like India,” wrote one user, emphasizing how closeness and cultural continuity can cause to cross abroad less dramatic.
Another user challenged generalization in Goenk’s notes and noted, “I’m surprised that I sent it as if you were published. Undoubtedly the first two may be somewhat accurate-they mile the Italian accent-but the rest sounds like total fiction.”
The third user offered more pointed reactions and said, “They just want some basic equipment, sir. Clean air to breathe, clean water to drink, public parks to enter without avoiding waste, available health care without bribery and dignity decent salaries with work life.
The user added that the behavior that Goenka ridicules is often misunderstood. “Yes, they could eat overpriced butter chicken and celebrate Diwali in Swarovski Sarees, but scratch the surface and see that it’s just an attempt to stick to home in a foreign country. Because no matter how many Quinoa salads eat, they still smile a little wider when they feel fresh jalebice
