England veteran Spinner Adil Rashid supported Harry Brook’s credentials as the captain of the English men’s cricket team for white balls before his first series in charge of Western India. The 26 -year -old Brook, which will be taken over by Jos Buttler, will lead the team during the upcoming ODI at home, from May 29.
Brook’s appointment means the beginning of a new era For the English cricket white balls, after the transition after the success of their cricket Championship of ICC in 2019 and the World Cup victory 2022 T20. However, the recent results were less favorable, with England finished seventh in the 2023 cricket championship and tried to influence the 2025 masters trophy.
Despite the challenges, older players like Rashid are convinced in Brook’s ability to lead the team back to his victory ways. Rashid, who has more than 290 international appearances on his name, spoke greatly about Brook’s potential of leadership and stressed that 26 -year maturity and thinking made him a suitable candidate to direct England with a key phase.
“I’m sure he is ready, but when someone takes over the captain, it’s not a thing overnight,” Rashid The PA told the press agency. “He has time, so far he has done well with what he did. I’m sure he will be a very good leader, and will do miracles for the English cricket in the future.”
Rashid stressed that the decision to give the captain was not adopted easily, and noted that the team had confidence in its skills and leadership qualities. “It’s a big task, it’s a big thing, but they gave it to him because they believe he could be the one,” he added. “We all believe he can be the leader and captain of ODIS and T20. It will be delicate (to balance), but I am sure he has the ability, thinking, hunger and effort to do so to victory and world cup.”
Rashid, now 37, includes a change in leadership, to contribute eagerly under the leadership of Brook and the new Bílum Ball coach Brendon McCullum, who took over the upcoming England team in September 2024, especially the future targets of 2026.
“It’s a new era with a new captain and new faces,” Rashid said. “Baz McCullum is coming, it will be his first coaching at home like England-Ball head coach. It’s an exciting challenge and I’m looking forward to it.”
With a series of three ODI matches followed by three T20i against West India, Rashid believes that England is on the right track. “The next task we have is the World Cup 2026. We are going to do it and make sure we get to this stage, we are ready.”
