Harmanpreet Kaur calls for more Tests as India prepare for a tough tour of Australia

February 14, 2026

Harmanpreet Kaur has called for more Test matches as India prepare to take on Australia in a multi-format tour. The series starts with three T20Is, followed by three ODIs and ends with the pink ball Test at the Perth Stadium. Since 2014, India have played seven Tests while Australia have appeared in 12, the most of any team in that period.

In 2021, India played a Test in Australia where 127 Smriti Mandhana helped the visitors secure a draw at Carrara Oval in Queensland. Two years later, in 2023, India beat Australia by eight wickets at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

“Multi-format series are always very exciting. We are really looking forward to it because playing T20s and ODIs is always great, but Tests are something we always want to play and a pink ball Test match will always be very exciting,” Harmanpreet told reporters ahead of the start of the T20I series.

WE ARE ON THE RIGHT TRACK

India have been in excellent form in the last three to four months. They lifted the World Cup at home last November and followed it up with a dominant 5-0 run against Sri Lanka. With the Women’s T20 World Cup now on the horizon, Harmanpreet spoke about maintaining the momentum and continuing the strong run of performances.

“We’re working really hard to achieve all our goals. Winning the World Cup (ODI) was one of them, so we’re on the right track. We’re just working really hard and hopefully we’ll continue to give our best whenever we play.”

“We know (Australia) are very strong. We’ve seen them play really good cricket for so long. One thing is very clear, whenever you go with a great mindset and a good, positive attitude, you can always bring out the best,” added Harmanpreet.

India opened the tour with a five-wicket win against the Governor General’s XI Women at the North Sydney Oval. The first of the three T20Is is scheduled to take place on Sunday, February 15 at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
