BRS Deputy Legislature Party Leader T. Harish Rao slammed the state government for harassing people with double fares for traveling in RTC buses this festive season.

“Instead of extending some goodies to the people during Bathukamma and Dasara festivities, the government is charging people traveling up to double the village fare by converting regular buses as special services and reducing the number of regular services.” Citing an example, he said that the normal fare for a trip from JBS to Karimnagar would be ₹230 but the government has now let the RTC collect ₹400 in the name of special buses.

“Similarly, the regular fare to travel to Mahabubnagar from MGBS would have been ₹220, but passengers were forced to cough up ₹290. The RTC has hiked fares on all routers, taking away the celebratory enthusiasm of the people.” He sought how the government would justify charging double fares for “special bus services” by simply displaying the deck.

“The government was offering passengers free travel but charging double fare from their men (family members),” he said. He pointed out that the RTC has already raised fares five times in the past three years. He demanded that the government scrap the increased fares in the name of festival specials and run regular services instead.
