ADILABAD

BRS leader and Siddipet MLA T. Harish Rao accused the ruling Congress party of indulging in flagrant abuse of power during elections to the posts of municipal chairmen and vice-chairmen in various parts of the state.

He was speaking to reporters after meeting former MLA Balka Suman at the Adilabad District Jail during a ‘mulaqat’ on Thursday.

Mr. Suman was sent to jail on Wednesday after being remanded in judicial custody for 14 days in connection with a “violent clash” during the Kyathanpalli municipal chairman election in Mancherial district.

Mr. Rao said the BRS-CPI combine had won 14 of the total 22 constituencies in Kyathanpalli municipality. But the Congress leaders forcibly prevented us from winning the municipal chairman election by resorting to intimidation, he charged.

Alleging that ruling party functionaries attacked a BRS cadre in Kyathanpalli on Tuesday, he sought the intervention of Governor Jishnu Dev Varma.
