HYDERABAD
Twelve migrant workers from Telangana, stranded in Jordan after going there in search of a better livelihood, returned to their native places on Saturday thanks to the efforts of senior Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader T. Harish Rao.
Before heading to their hometowns, they met Mr. Rao at the residence here and thanked him for helping them return to their homeland after facing all kinds of problems in Jordan. Mr. Rao asked about the problems they faced on foreign soil.
The workers said they repeatedly appealed to all political parties in the state and pleaded for help, but it was only the BRS that responded and helped them get back home. They became emotional recalling their ordeal in Jordan and explained that some days they were unable to even have a large meal.
Mr. Rao said that the BRS brought the issue to the attention of the state and central governments immediately after learning about it and made repeated appeals, but to no avail. They were allowed to return to their homeland only after a fine was paid on their behalf. He said that a large number of migrants from the state are heading to the Gulf countries to earn a better living and repay the debt incurred at home, but they are cheated at the hands of agents.
He alleged that the Congress government had failed to keep promises made even to migrant workers to set up a welfare committee. Mr. Rao carried the return tickets of all 12 workers.
