BRSLP deputy leader and Siddipet MLA T. Harish Rao on Wednesday urged Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to enter the election fray from Siddipet instead of asking another candidate to contest from the seat.
In an informal conversation with reporters in the Assembly, Mr. Rao said the Chief Minister should refrain from fielding any Congress candidate in the constituency and instead oppose him directly.
His remarks were in response to Mr Reddy’s recent statement offering a ministerial berth to any Congress leader who manages to secure a victory from Siddipet.
Reiterating his belief that the BRS will return to power in the next general elections under the leadership of K. Chandrasekhar Rao, Mr. Harish Rao said, Even if Revanth Reddy repents, he will not become the Chief Minister again.
He accused the Congress government of betraying all sections of society, especially BCs, SCs, STs and minorities, by not implementing its electoral guarantees. Citing the government’s answers given in the assembly, he claimed that less than 2% of the funds approved for various community welfare corporations had been spent, which he termed as evidence of neglect towards marginalized groups.
Welcoming the proposals for delimitation and women’s reservation, Mr. Rao expressed confidence that increasing the number of seats in the Assembly would benefit the BRS. But he warned that population limits could adversely affect southern states that have effectively implemented population control standards.
