Haripad police register a case of alleged murder of a medical student in Uzbekistan

Haripad police in Alappuzha have registered a case of alleged murder of a 22-year-old medical student from Pilapuzha near Haripad in Uzbekistan by a classmate, a native of Malappuram. The case was registered on Wednesday based on the initiative of the victim’s parents to the district police director.

Savariya Basanth, a first-year MBBS student at Bukhara State Medical Institute, was allegedly beaten with a laptop by Sadarul Anam (22), a native of Pulamanthole in Malappuram, after a heated argument. Mr. Anam was reportedly arrested by Uzbek authorities. In their complaint, the Savariya family said the woman’s body had multiple injuries, indicating a serious assault.

Savariya’s maternal uncle, Janeesh, who traveled to Uzbekistan to bring her body back, alleged that the accused pressured her to convert to her religion.

Kayamkulam Dy.SP Binukumar T. said that a case has been registered based on the statements of the victim’s family members and the report will be submitted to the District Superintendent of Police.

Savariya’s funeral was held at her Pallippad residence on Thursday after a second post-mortem at Alappuzha Government Medical College Hospital.
