Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) lawmaker Sheikh Khurshid on Sunday (February 1, 2026) sought an all-party meeting in Jammu and Kashmir over the future of Pakistan returnees, power projects, harassment of Kashmiris outside Jammu and Kashmir and termination of employees by the Governor (LG).
Mr. Khursheed, Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Langat, handed over a letter to J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on January 24, 2026 and called for an all-party meeting.
“There are increasing cases of harassment of Kashmiris outside J&K and the LG is silent,” he said.
The MLA said he also brought a resolution demanding citizenship and legal status for women and children who had returned from Pakistan and settled in Jammu and Kashmir under the government’s rehabilitation policy.
“Despite residing in the Union territory for many years, many of these families remain without citizenship or legal recognition, resulting in denial of basic rights such as education, healthcare, employment opportunities and identity documents,” Mr Khursheed said.
The MLA also expressed concern over the dismissal of civil servants “without issuing a show-cause notice or giving them an opportunity to defend themselves”. “Such acts are a blatant violation of the principles of natural justice,” he said.

He also demanded the return and transfer of all power projects to Jammu and Kashmir. “This would help ensure cheaper electricity, strengthen power infrastructure, increase revenue generation and provide relief to electricity consumers in UT,” he added.
Mr. Khursheed also proposed a resolution on jailed Doda MLA Mehraji Malik in the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir Assembly session.
