Why is Hajj important?
The Hajj is an annual pilgrimage to Mecca, Islam’s holiest city, located in Saudi Arabia, home to the Kaaba, Islam’s holiest site. The pilgrimage takes place during a certain period and ends with Eid-ul-Adha. Hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam.
Many pilgrims also travel to Medina, where the Prophet Muhammad’s tomb is located and which is the second holiest site in Islam. Although visiting Medina is not an official requirement of the Hajj, it remains a meaningful spiritual journey for many devout Muslims.
The Hajj pilgrimage takes place every year from the eighth to the thirteenth day of Zil-Hijjah, the last month of the Islamic lunar calendar.
