While investigating a burglary, the Begur police arrested two habitual offenders who had recently been involved in five burglaries in and around the house.
The arrested have been identified as Shanth Kumar (37), a wall painter by profession, and his associate Jnanaprakasham (40), a carpenter, both hailing from Kolar Gold Fields (KGF).
“The accused are habitual offenders who used to come to the city by train and move around residential areas to identify locked houses. The accused do not use mobile phones while driving and cover their faces with masks. However, the pair were nabbed based on a distinct physical description found in the CCTV footage,” said a senior official.
City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh advised people to be cautious while leaving their houses locked and asked them to inform the jurisdictional police while leaving the station. That would help police keep an eye on the house while on patrol, he said.
