Former university vice-chancellor Dr. BR Ambedkar Hanumanthu Lajapathirai on Sunday (October 11, 2026) said that reading is the basis of personality development and acquisition of intellectual abilities. He urged parents to encourage children to focus on reading books at an early age.

Dr. Lajapathirai was elected the honorary president of the Vizianagaram Reads Community, which was started by Repalle Eswara Rao in Vizianagaram a few years ago. On Saturday and Sunday (October 10 and 11, 2026), a special reading for children was organized at the memorial house of eminent poet and writer Gurajada Apparao near the fort.

Dr. Addressing the media on the occasion, Lajapathirai appreciated Mr. Eswara Rao’s efforts to make children attend special reading classes every weekend and read biographies of eminent personalities and children’s literature.

Mr. Eswara Rao said that mere academic study does not enhance creative and logical thinking, which was the reason why the association organized readings in libraries, parks and other public places.

Senior Advocate SSSS Raju, Director Swagat Hotel Management Academy Arjuna Kandula, Gurajada family member Mrs. Indira Devi and others were present.
