After years of alleged abuse at the hands of her late mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, Gypsy Rose has committed to helping others. “I want to give back in any way I can,” she shared, emphasizing her ongoing mission to support survivors of abuse and those in need.
“I’ve wanted to do this for a long time—donate my hair to a charity that makes wigs for people experiencing hair loss, such as those battling cancer,” she explained in a video, noting that her hair was donated to a charity called The Big Cut.

Gypsy Rose was released from prison in December 2023 after serving 85% of her 10-year sentence for her role in the murder of Dee Dee Blanchard.
Her story garnered national attention as it was revealed that Gypsy Rose had been a victim of Munchausen syndrome by proxy. Many believe Dee Dee fabricated her daughter’s illnesses, subjecting her to unnecessary medical treatments for years.
As detailed in the documentary “Mommy Dead and Dearest,” Dee Dee subjected Gypsy to unnecessary medical procedures, surgeries, and medications. Gypsy underwent treatments such as a feeding tube, surgery to remove her salivary glands, and medications that caused severe side effects and health complications.

“I always had a stuffed animal or a Barbie doll, and Dee Dee would tell me, ‘Play with your Barbie doll, and when the doctor comes to examine you, stay in your wheelchair. Be still. Play with your doll, and don’t move your legs,'” Gypsy revealed about her childhood doctor visits.
“I was in the dark, just like everyone else,” Gypsy said in the 2017 documentary. “The only thing I knew was that I could walk. As for everything else—leukemia, epilepsy, the medications—Dee Dee told me they were cancer treatments.”
Over nine years, Dee Dee took Gypsy to the hospital more than 100 times, as documented in medical records.
