Guwahati gunfight survivors stable, post-mortems of five victims underway
The sole survivor of a shootout at a Guwahati hotel was in a stable condition, an official said on Tuesday (Oct 27, 2026).
Satyen Pathak was among six people who were shot dead at the Bilas Inn on Monday (October 26, 2026) night in a dispute between the property owner and its tenant. Mr. Pathak is the only survivor of the attack, while the rest died, according to the police.
Superintendent Devajit Choudhury of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) said the bullet passed through Mr. Pathak’s right hand without damaging any vital organs.
“He is in a stable condition. He will require further tests and will have to stay in the hospital for a few more days,” he said.
Mr. Choudhury said the postmortem of the five deceased is underway at GMCH and the bodies will be handed over to their families after necessary formalities.
All the deceased were linked to the hotel owner, with four belonging to the same family, police said.
Guwahati Police Commissioner Partha Sarathi Mahanta said the accused, identified as Ghanakanta Gogoi – a tenant of the property, was nabbed in the Paltan Bazar area within an hour of the incident, which occurred around 9 pm.
The weapon allegedly used in the shooting, a licensed .32 caliber pistol, was also recovered, he said.
