The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) has announced a cash reward of Rs 25 crore for the ground staff and curators at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. The award comes as a gesture of appreciation for their efforts in maintaining the pitch and outfield despite constant rain during matches.
Incessant rain caused several disruptions during Rajasthan Royals’ three home matches in Guwahati. One match against Mumbai Indians was reduced to an 11-overs-a-side contest, while the other two matches against Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Chennai Super Kings were also affected by adverse weather conditions. Despite these challenges, the ground staff ensured that the pitches and pitches remained ready for the match so that the games could continue without major delays.
“Working in challenging weather conditions, the curator and grounds staff ensured the pitches were prepared and maintained to the highest standards,” the ACA said in a statement. “Their efforts were crucial to the smooth running of the matches and helped to maintain the venue’s growing reputation on the national stage.”

Guwahati served as the second home venue for Rajasthan Royals this season, with several matches postponed due to ongoing renovations in Jaipur. After completing the Guwahati leg, the team will return to their primary home ground, the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, on April 25.
The stadium has undergone extensive upgrades to meet Board of Control for Cricket in India standards, including refurbished stands, installation of new lifts, advanced LED floodlights and upgraded dressing rooms. Improved fan equipment was also introduced as part of the extensive rebuild. This development, with the support of the Rajasthan government, ensures that the venue is fully prepared to host the remaining matches of IPL 2026.
Currently leading the points table are Rajasthan Royals who have won all four matches. The Riyan Parag-led side is scheduled to face Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 13 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan-led Sunrisers Hyderabad sit seventh in the table with one win from four matches and a net rate of -0.024.
