The first day of the traditional Marathi New Year was celebrated with processions and religious gatherings in towns across the state to mark Gudi Padwa. Citizens participated in the festivities by hoisting Gudi and attending community events. Celebrations included processions in Mumbai, Thane, Nagpur and other places where traditional music ensembles performed.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis attended the parade in Nagpur. A collective recitation of the Ramraksha Stotra was performed at the venue. Mr. Fadnavis said that the festival has significance in culture and urged the citizens to adopt positive resolutions for the new year. He added that joint efforts of citizens are necessary for national progress.
Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde attended the parade in Thane. The procession started at the Kopineshwar temple. MLAs Sanjay Kelkar and Niranjan Davkhare and MP Naresh Maske were present. Citizens lined the streets to watch the parade. The event included performances by Dhol and Tasha groups and Lezim dancers.

In Dombivli, women riding motorcycles and bicycles appeared in the procession. Dressed in traditional attire, the participants hoisted the Gudi on their vehicles.
At the Tuljabhavani temple, the Gudi was elevated to the temple tower after the morning Aarti. High priests led the service. The Vitthal-Rukmini temple was decorated with flowers. Devotees visit temples across the state on this day, which is considered one of the three and a half auspicious moments in the Hindu calendar.
