The Government Railway Police (GRP) seized a consignment of 12 kg ganja from an express train at Jolarpet railway station in Tirupattur on Saturday.
The police said that as part of a special drive against illegal transportation of narcotics and inflammable articles in trains under Operation Narcos, a team of GRP policemen at the railway station was conducting surprise checks in the stopped trains.
The team searched the coaches of the express train en route to Chennai where they found two abandoned tourist bags containing ganja.
Initial investigation revealed that the three-member gang abandoned the consignment and fled the spot after noticing a police team was boarding the train. GRP Jolarpet has registered a case. Police also analyzed CCTV footage to nab the gang involved. A probe is underway.
