Israeli forces have entered several ships with foreign activists carrying help in Gaza and on Wednesday took them to the Israeli port and disrupted the protest that became one of the most important symbols of opposition to the Israeli blockade of the enclave.
The video from the Israeli Foreign Ministry proven by Reuters showed the most important of the passengers of the Swedish climatic activists Greta Thunberg, sitting on board surrounded by soldiers, Reuters reported.
“Several Hamas-Sumud fleet vessels have been safely stopped and their passengers are transferred to the Israeli port,” the Israeli Foreign Ministry said to X. “Greta and her friends are safe and healthy.”

The Global Fleet Sumud, which carried food and medicines to Gaza, included over 40 civilian ships with approximately 500 deputies, lawyers and activists on board.
When the fleet got through the Mediterranean, it attracted international attention, with a country like Turkey, Spain and Italy sent ships or drones to help their nationals if necessary. Despite this, Israel has repeatedly warned the fleet to come back.

In response to the Israeli attack on the convoy, the Turkish Foreign Ministry condemned him as “terrorist” that threatened innocent lives. The air raid also caused spontaneous protests in Italy.

Flotilla also claimed that the Israeli Navy had tried to sift the ship “Maria Cristina”, although Reuters could not verify this claim separately.
Ankara said that Israel began to release the Turks and others on board, while Spain called for Israel to protect the safety and rights of activists.
“Today’s reports are very concerned. This is a peaceful mission that shines light on a terrible humanitarian disaster,” said Irish Foreign Minister Simon Harris on X.

According to Flotil’s ships, a total of nine ships were captured or stopped. The organizers remained defiant and in their statement claimed that the fleet “would no longer hurt”.
The Israeli Navy had previously warned the fleet that it was approaching the active combat zone and violated the legal blockade, and asked them to change the course. He offered to convert any help peacefully through safe channels to Gaza.
Trying to break the blockade
The fleet hoped that they would arrive in Gaza on Thursday morning if it was not captured.
That was the second time the fleet approached Wednesday. Before the dawn, the organizers of the mission said two Israeli “warships” surrounded two fleet ships and climbed its communication.
Last week, the fleet was attacked by drones that dropped stunning grenades and itching on the blood vessels, causing damage but no injuries.

Italy and Spain deployed naval ships to help with any rescue or humanitarian needs, but stopped watching the fleet as soon as it got into 150 naval miles (278 km) in Gaza. Turkish drones were also followed by ships.
Italy and Greece invited Israel together on Wednesday so that it did not hurt activists on board, and urged the fleet to give its help to the Catholic church for indirect birth to Gaza – a lawsuit that the fleet had previously refused.
Israeli officials repeatedly condemned the mission as a sensation.
“This systematic rejection (passing help) shows that the goal is not humanitarian but provocative,” said Jonathan, Israeli ambassador to Italy, in post X.
Past attempt to provide assistance
“This systematic rejection (passing help) shows that the goal is not humanitarian, but provocative,” said Jonathan Peled, Israeli ambassador to Italy, in the paper.
At a press conference organized by the organizers on Wednesday, Francesca Albanese, the highest Palestinian rights expert, he said that any fleet capture would be “violation of international law” because Israel had no legal jurisdiction over the waters outside Gaza.
Israel has maintained a naval blockade since Hamas took control of the 2007 area, and activists have been numerous attempts to break the blockade and provide assistance by the sea.

One of the most important incidents occurred in 2010, when nine activists were killed after Israeli soldiers joined the fleet of six ships that carried 700 Pro-Palestinian activists from 50 countries. This event caused extensive international convicts.

Activists on board the fleet bound to Gaza said that Israeli warships were surrounded by several ships on Wednesday and that the main vessels were captured. “War ships are moving to capture the fleet – only 81 naval miles remain in Gaza,” Maghreb said the contingent of the Sumud global fleet. In June 2023, the Israeli naval forces held the Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg and 11 of the small vessel organized by Freedom Flotilla, Pro-Palestinian groups as they approached Gaza.
The blockade and escalating tensions were further intensified by an attack led by Hamas on Israel 7 October 2023, which left around 1,200 people dead and 251 hostages. In response, Israel has launched an extensive offensive in Gaza, which, according to local health authorities, resulted in Gaza more than 65,000 deaths.
