Swedish activist Greta Thunberg was arrested in London on Tuesday 23 December during a pro-Palestinian protest, according to UK campaign group Defend Our Juries. Greta Thunberg has reportedly been arrested under the Terrorism Act.
The campaign group said it was arrested under the Terrorism Act at a “Prisoners for Palestine” protest outside the offices of Aspen Insurance in the British capital.
“Greta Thurnberg was arrested under the Terrorism Act at a protest against the lock-up of Prisoners for Palestine,” Prisoners for Palestine said in a statement.
According to the latest reports, the protesters are being detained on charges of supporting the banned group Palestine Action. During the protest, Greta Thunberg held a banner that read: “I support prisoners from Palestine. I am against genocide.”
Meanwhile, London police said two people were arrested for throwing red paint at the building.
“A moment later, a 22-year-old woman also arrived at the scene,” a police spokeswoman said in a statement.
He added: “She was arrested for displaying an object (in this case a banner) in support of a banned organization (in this case Palestine Action) in breach of Section 13 of the Terrorism Act 2000. Throwing red paint at the Defend building, Our Juries said it targeted the structure because it was used by an insurance firm that they said provided services to the British branch of Israeli defense firm Elbit Systems.
