Cameron Green was finally able to release some of his price tag pressure and scored a 55-ball 79 runs against Gujarat Titans. Green hit 7 boundaries and 4 sixes to save Kolkata’s innings from disaster. Green bought KKR for Rs. 25.2 Crore but failed to inspire with bat or ball. In the five games before Friday’s contest, Green had 56 shots in five games and allowed one shutout. This led to fans and scholars bang on jack-of-all-trades and asked him to be thrown from the party.
GT vs KKR Live Updates
Green came into bat with KKR in all sorts of trouble after losing their skipper, Ajinkya Rahane off the first ball and then Angkrish Raghuvanshi in the second over.
Tim Seifert, playing his first match for Kolkata this season, showed some promise but was dismissed by Rabada for 19 runs off 14 balls. Green and Powell had to weather the storm as the GT bowlers ensured that KKR got just 37 runs from the over and lost three wickets.
From there, Powell and Green put on a partnership of 55 off 42 balls, with the West Indian batsman scoring 27 off 20 balls and KKR were at 87 for four in 11 overs.
However, that’s when Green kicked into gear and shifted the momentum in Kolkata’s favour.
GREEN EAT HIS LUCK, CUTS RASHID KHAN
Green’s innings struggled for rhythm early on as he had a few lucky edges and survived a catching challenge in the fifth over. He slowly began to gain momentum alongside Powell, but once the West Indian fell, he began to pick up the pace.
When Powell got out, Green was batting on 27 off 28 balls and the following over dropped Rashid Khan. In the second over of the Afghan spinner, he hit him for a six and a boundary.
The following over, Green bowled Ashok Sharma for two sixes to complete his fifty in 34 balls. The third one from Rashid saw him dismantle the spinner for a boundary of six and two. Both fours had a big element of luck as the first was an outside edge that went past Jose Buttler and then the second was dropped by Washington Sundar near the boundary line.
KKR kept losing wickets to the likes of Anukul Roy, Rinku Singh and Ramandeep Singh in quick succession, meaning all the pressure was on them to secure the final surge.
But KKR’s brain fade ensured Green was out of the crease for long periods and they collapsed from 147 for five to 173 for nine.
Green eventually fell to Rashid off the last ball of the innings to end his innings on 79 off 55 balls.
