Greater Hyderabad region records highest energy consumption, peak load on record

HYDERABAD

The Greater Hyderabad region of Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Ltd (TGSPDCL) recorded its highest ever power consumption on May 21 at 100.83 million units, out of the total power consumption in the state recorded at 254.89 million units or 39.56% of total consumption.

According to Southern Discom officials, the peak power load in the Greater Hyderabad area was also the highest on May 21 at 4,766 megawatts. The previous highest peak load was recorded on May 19 of 4,748 MW and the highest energy consumption of 100.56 MU was recorded on April 17 this year.

The sweltering daytime temperature coupled with higher power consumption at night led to record power consumption, the official said, adding that the distribution network coped with the demand without any hiccups, indicating its readiness to meet even higher demand.
