A day after winning the gram panchayat elections, the newly elected sarpanch of Kandikatkoor in Rajanna Sircilla district fulfilled her election promise to tackle the monkey menace in her village and won the hearts of the villagers.
Vijayamma, who became the winner of Sunday’s sarpanch election, put her campaign promise into practice the very next day. She contacted the monkey trappers of Suryapet district, who in turn trapped around 113 monkeys in a special cage on Monday.
The trapped monkeys were later safely released into the forest, sources said.
It may be mentioned that the issue of monkey menace has dominated the gram panchayat election campaign in dozens of villages reeling under rampant monkey menace in the erstwhile Karimnagar district. Candidates in the fray in several of these villages have promised to check the monkey menace if elected.
In Kumram Bheem Asifabad district, the defeated candidate in the just concluded sarpanch election has shown her unwavering determination to fulfill the promise she made to the local villagers.
Despite her defeat in the gram panchayat polls, post-graduate Vijayalakshmi, along with her supporters, volunteered to bear the cost of drilling a well in a local temple in the village, as she had promised during her election campaign, regardless of victory or defeat in the hustings.
Sources added that the drilling of the well began on Tuesday.
