The second phase of Gram Panchayat elections in Telangana has concluded with the declaration of results for each candidate post across the state, according to a report issued by the State Election Commission.
The report said that elections were held for 3,911 Sarpanch posts and 29,917 corps member posts and the results for all of them were declared on Monday (December 15).
Among the Sarpanch contests, Nalgonda topped the list with 241 entries, followed by Sangareddy (229), Siddipet (172), Ranga Reddy (165) and Khammam (160).
In the ward member contests, Sangareddy led with 1,941 posts, followed by Nalgonda (1,832), Khammam (1,379), Siddipet (1,371) and Ranga Reddy.
The results reveal a remarkable generational shift in local leadership, with 21-year-old newcomers and seasoned elders coming through. Nine 21-year-olds were elected as Sarpanchs, with seven women and two men joining the ranks. In total, women won nine out of 12 seats, men three.
Conversely, the oldest winners include an 86-year-old woman from Vikarabad district and two 83-year-old women from Siddipet and Suryapet districts, demonstrating a striking diversity in age and experience among the new leaders.
