
The day after the collapse of part of the school roof and killing seven children in Rajasthan, the Ministry of Education said on Saturday that he had an audit of the security and facilities of students compulsory in schools across the country.
Seven students were killed and 27 injured, some critically, after the roof of the Government Elementary School on Friday morning collapsed in Jhalawar, Rajasthan. Part of government schools Piplodi building classes 6 and 7 retreated and buried about 35 children, the police said.
On Saturday, the last ceremonies of students who died of roof collapse were carried out.
Five officials have paused
The angry over the tragedy, family members and residents of vandalized police vehicles in the village of Piplodi during the protest against administration and claimed negligence over the dilapidated state of school infrastructure, PTI reported.
Rajasthan’s main Minister Bhajanlal Sharma expressed deep sadness over the death of students and made sure that a thorough investigation would be carried out to determine the cause of the tragedy.
Five officials of the Ministry of Education were suspended when the investigation of the roof collapse began on Saturday, the report cited a higher official.
A committee was created and measures would be taken against the winemakers, said Ajay Singh Rathhore collector Jhalawar. Five officers who were suspended are – Meena Garg, Javed Ahmed, Ramvilas, Kanhaiya Lal Sugan and Badrilal Lodha.
Students eyewitnesses say they saw falling from the roof falling stones
Two students from the same school who were eyewitnesses on Friday to the tragedy said they noticed that the roof was falling stones and informed their teacher, but their complaints were ignored.
“When we were sitting in the classroom, Stones began to fall from the roof. We immediately informed our teacher, but what we said was ignored. Later the roof collapsed,” two students said.
Former Rajasthan’s Minister Pramod Jain Bhaya claimed that, despite repeated complaints about the dilapidated building, no measures were taken. On the day of the incident, students were scolded and forced to sit inside the school, even after they reported the falling roof parts.
Bhaya called for a comprehensive survey of all school buildings in Rajasthan and said: “To prevent such repetition in the state, a survey of all school buildings should be carried out in Rajasthan.”
On Saturday, the Rajasthan government decided to prefer the repair of dilapidated school buildings, government institutions and Anganwadi Centers throughout the state. According to the report, the decision was taken during the Audit Meeting by Bhajanlal Sharma chairman.
