Minister of Health, Medical Education and Care for Family Satya Kumar Yadav said on Thursday that the state government is trying to increase Green coverage in Andhra Pradesh from the current 29% to 50% by 2047 as part of Swarnandra 2047 through massive plantations.
After planting seedlings in Tadepalli on the outskirts of Vijayawady on the occasion of the World Environment Day, the Minister said the government has launched a program from which one crore seedlings will be planted.
The Minister urged everyone to participate in the program and stated that the tree provides oxygen worth 10 lakhs over its lifetime 50-100 years. He said it was because of the ecological imbalance, that the world reports natural calamities such as floods, earthquakes, etc.
Later, the collector of the NTR district G. Lakshmisha stated that at the district level, efforts were being developed too much in coordination with forest and Panchayati Raj to increase green coverage from 11% to 33% by planting 2 60,000 seedlings within one year on both sides of the road.
Mylavaram Mla Vasantha Venko Krishn Prasad also spoke of the opportunity.
In another event organized by Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) at the Loyola College Road in East Constituration Mla Gadde Rammohan stressed that it was necessary to reduce plastic use to make cities clean. He encouraged the public to move to alternatives such as substances, jute and paper bags.
Municipal Commissioner HM Dyanacandra said the corporation had already developed 27 kilometers of Avenue plantation in the city. As part of the environmental initiative, the company focuses on growing 10,160 seedlings over the next three months and extending the plantation stretching to 55 kilometers, he said.
The Commissioner said “Fabric in – Plastic Out” was set up in prominent places such as Sri Kanaka Durga, Flower Market, Kaleswara Rao Market, VMC Main Office, Kedareswarerapet Fruit Market, Sambamurthy Bazaar and Patamata Ryth Bazaar. At these stalls, citizens are invited to replace their plastic bags with ecological alternatives such as fabric bags.
