The state government will provide full support to the granite cutting and polishing industry and resolve its long pending issues, Mines and Geology Minister Kollu Ravindra said on Tuesday.
After a meeting with representatives of the Association of Granite Cutting and Polishing Units from the erstwhile Guntur and Prakasam districts, the Minister said that a committee comprising all stakeholders has been formed to address the concerns of the industry.
Mr. Ravindra assured that the government would take a positive decision on the issue of severance pay without causing loss to the state or the industry.
Ministers Gottipati Ravi Kumar and Dola Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy and MLAs Eluri Sambasiva Rao and BN Vijay Kumar attended the meeting held at the Amaravati Secretariat. Industry representatives explained that the practice of charging a uniform seigniorage for all types of raw materials was causing a financial burden for the units and they were looking for a more practical solution. Mr. Ravindra appealed to the factory owners to call off the strike immediately, pointing out that the prolonged shutdowns have affected thousands of dependent workers.
To address the key issues, the government constituted a committee comprising officials from the mining department, district DMGOs, seigniorage selection offices and two members from each association. The committee will consult with stakeholders and submit a report within a week, the minister added.
