Almost a year after their initial protest over insufficient infrastructure, students of the government nursing university in Pathanamthitta re -organized a demonstration demanding government intervention on Wednesday to deal with the lack of basic facilities and to ensure recognition from the Indian Nursing Council (INC).
The university, which began to operate in 2023 with the first dose of 60 students, received temporary approval at the University of Health Sciences Kerala University (Kuhs) and Keral Nursing Council. However, even after more than two years of operation, the institution did not provide compulsory recognition since Inc.
Students currently operating outside the rented buildings claimed that the university even lacks basic infrastructure, including properly equipped laboratories essential for clinical training. Repeated supplications of the Minister of Health and the concerned authorities did not happen and long -term inactivity left them more and more disturbing as the date of graduation approached.
Student nurses in India (Snai), who lent to protest, strongly criticized the current state of affairs.
In his statement, the chairman of Snai AMAL DEV pointed out that the leased building that would accommodate a university has no sufficient classrooms, and that more than 120 students are forced to share only two toilets.
Secretary of Snai Afiya Rajesh added that unlike 13 other government nursing universities in Kerala, which operates within the established government campus of the Faculty of Medicine, this institution is located 16 km from the nearest medical faculty.
She also emphasized the absence of a hostel, which left students dependent on expensive private accommodation. The organization also caused concerns that the university does not meet the ratio of the Indian Nursing Council for teachers and students 1:10.
