The Telangana government has taken a major decision to reserve 85% Post Graduate (PG) Medical Management Quota–1 (MQ–1) seats in private medical colleges for local students of Telangana.
Till now, these MQ-1 seats were filled in the All-India category, which was open to candidates from across the country. With this new policy, Telangana students will now have access to 85% of these seats, while the remaining 15% will continue to be open to all-India candidates.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy took the decision after Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha’s representation, fulfilling a decade-old demand. The GO formalizing the 85% local quota will be issued soon.
For the academic year 2025-26, Telangana has 31 PG medical colleges offering 2,983 seats. Out of this, 741 seats are in PG Medical Management Quota and 374 are under MQ-1 category. The new policy will ensure that students from Telangana will benefit from 318 PG Medical seats and 70 PG Dental seats which are additionally available every year. Until now, almost 60% of these positions have been filled by non-local candidates.
