The center presented 4% of the reservation in the allocation of general accommodation for residential accommodation (GPRA) for its employees with benchmark disabilities.
The aim of the new policy announced by the Ministry of Housing and urban affairs is to ensure greater accessibility and equal opportunities in government housing.
The Directive issued under the Act on Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPWD) states that, according to a statement, all employees of the Central Government with reference disabilities – defined in Section 34 of the Act – will be eligible for the priority assignment of GPR.
These include individuals with conditions such as blindness, weak vision, hearing impairment, locomotor involvement, brain palsy, leprosy cured, dwarf, acid attack injuries and muscular dystrophy.
The central government provides about 109,474 residential units within the GPRA system across 347 colonies in 61 cities throughout India, showing government data.
As part of the new policy, about 4,379 government housing units will be reserved throughout the country for eligible government employees with comparative disabilities.
In the framework of the revised policy, employees will receive priority in both initial assignments and applications for a change in accommodation in a general unified waiting list, the statement said.
Benchmark disability is determined according to section 2 (a). R) of the RPWD Act, which defines a person with at least 40% of the specified disability, whether measurable or otherwise, certified by the competent authority.
The Minister of Housing and the City Affairs Manohar Lala Khattar, who describes the initiative as a landmark for inclusive administration, said the measures reflect the government’s obligation to equal opportunities for all and align with the wider vision of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas. The decision is also part of Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan, who is trying to build a more affordable and barrier -free environment for people with disabilities.
“The assignment will be processed via the government’s automated system assignment (ASA) and applicants must place their offers every month on the EsamPad website under the newly introduced person with disabilities (PWD),” said Ravi Arara.
“The unique card ID of the disability ID (UDID) issued by the government will serve as valid evidence of capacity. The applicants are obliged to record the UDID card to their profile on the EsamPad portal, which will be verified by their relevant ministries or departments before the application is handed over to the Esteate Directorate.”
