In a major push for urban development across Telangana, the state government has sanctioned a massive ₹2,780 crore for civic infrastructure works in 138 municipalities and municipal corporations.
Orders to this effect were issued on the instructions of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. A total of 2,432 development works were approved as part of the initiative. The chief minister ordered officials to call for tenders and start work immediately with a deadline of March 2026 to complete all approved projects.
The funds were sanctioned as part of “Telangana Rising Vision 2027”. The CM emphasized that the projects must cater to the growing population and in line with this vision, the government approved the works based on the proposals submitted by the city administration department.
Financing will be drawn both from the state budget for urban development and from the Urban Infrastructure Development Fund (UIDF).
Under the allocation scheme, a newly formed municipality will receive ₹15 million, municipalities that include amalgamated gram panchayats will receive ₹20 million, older municipalities will be allocated ₹15 million and newly formed municipal corporations will receive ₹30 million each.
The Department of Municipal Administration has also issued detailed guidelines on priority spending areas. The sanctioned funds are to be used for works like development of amalgamated areas in municipalities, construction of internal roads, construction of rainwater and underground drainage systems, improvement of major junctions, pollution control in lakes and reservoirs, provision of basic amenities in two bedroom residential colonies among others.
