Minister of income K. Rajan said on Monday (October 6) that the state government issued an order for the regularization of “unsurpassed land” in the Malabar districts.
The non -cultivation areas distributed to tenants for the royal period as “tax -free” land are referred to as “uninvited land”. After the establishment of Kerala, these landowners were not able to pay tax because income officials refused to accept it. These people also could not sell land, commit it in banks as collateral, or ask for soil mutation.
Attempts to use the provisions of the 1895 Land Registration Act were not successful due to some legal issues. Although the government issued a regulation that explained that in such cases it should be subject to the 1961 land tax law, it also faces legal obstacles. Now the holders of non -classified land are included in the definition of the population pursuant to Section 3 (3) of the Act of 1961, the Minister said. The order would help thousands of land owners, he added.
