HYDERABAD
Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy reiterated that the Congress government is committed to reviving the Pranahita-Chevella project to provide irrigation facilities to the combined districts of Adilabad and Rangareddy by constructing a barrage at Tummidihatti as originally proposed.
In a preparatory meeting held here on Friday to take the proposal forward by taking up the matter with Maharashtra, he asked Aarvee Associates and IIT Hyderabad to prepare comprehensive technical proposals to initiate consultations with the Maharashtra government on the construction of the Tummidihatti barrage. He asked consultants to prepare proposals to reduce the extent of submergence in Maharashtra, including the Chapral Wildlife Sanctuary there. He said the Telangana government is ready to pay adequate compensation to the lands likely to be submerged in the backwaters of the Tummidihatti barrage.
