New Delhi: The government plans to set up quarantine centers for three international border body-amritsar, Guwahati and Petrapol-on Bhubaneswar to check the cross-border movement of potential infectious disease carriers.
These designated centers are supported according to the government mission Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM).
PM-Abhimis considered the largest Pan-India scheme to strengthen health care infrastructure with expenditure £64 180 crore. One of the key components of PM-ABHIM is the operation of new public health units and strengthening existing points, such as airports, marine ports and ground transitions.
The quarantine centers are designed to separate and reduce the movement of individuals who have been exposed to infectious diseases such as Covid-19, but do not yet show symptoms. The aim of these centers is to prevent the transmission of the disease to others in the country.
Previously, these centers were earmarked for Kannur (Kerala), Bhogapuram (Andhra Pradesh), Chennai (Tamil Nadu) and Kolkata (West Bengal). According to documents reviewed by mint, this plan comes when the Ministry of Civil Aviation builds the quarantine centers on Kannur and Kannur and Kannur.
The centers at Chennai and Kolkata airports will be built by Indian airport authority (AAI) as part of their plans to expand the airport. This means that the money previously planned for these four places will not be needed and release these resources.
“New places are important points of entry and connectivity: Amritsar serves as the main land road to Pakistan and cultural junction; Guwahati is a northeast gate with extensive regional connections; Bhubaneshwar is an important entrance point in the air in East India;
This strategic decision has been discussed and ratified at the meeting of the National Health Mission Management Group mission recently.
“This proactive approach ensures efficient use of resources and better readiness for public health in critical places throughout the country,” said the clerk, stressing that they help in the transfer of diseases, monitoring and timely detection, management of high -risk individuals, burdening in hospitals, emergency readiness and providing specialized care and support.
“Even the only case of a new virus, if it did not check at the entry, could cause a large community transmission and amaze local hospitals. Quarantine centers serve as a barrier, potentially prevents such focus than it could begin,” Dr. Rajeev Jayadevan, a public health expert and the past president, the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Cochin.
Questions sent by spokesperson of the Ministry of Health remained unanswered.
