The Group of Ministers (GoM), comprising Payyavula Keshav (Finance), Kinjarapu Atchannaidu (Agriculture) and Nadendla Manohar (Civil Supplies), on Saturday said that people in Andhra Pradesh need not worry about the supply of LPG cylinders as both the central and state governments are taking coordinated measures to ensure uninterrupted availability of cooking gas.
The GoM along with special teams of officials have been continuously monitoring the situation and checking the status of supplies to prevent any inconvenience to the public, the ministers said.
Earlier, the ministers held a review meeting at the office of civil supplies with officials from civil supplies, information and public relations, police, security and other coordination departments and representatives of oil and gas companies such as Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum.
Discussions focused on the current demand for LPG in the state, the supply situation and the future course of action to ensure that consumers do not face hardship.
The government has decided to move forward with a strong action plan based on real-time data analysis to maintain steady supply.
Ministers said there was a temporary disruption in LPG supplies due to the ongoing war in the Persian Gulf region, which affected shipping and logistics. They said the central government has initiated steps to restore and strengthen supply systems and alternative routes are being explored to ensure uninterrupted availability. Refineries across the country have also been directed to increase LPG production by reducing production of some other petroleum products as it would increase gas production by about 10-20%, they said.
Stating that the state government is making all efforts to ensure that domestic LPG supply to households is not affected, they said priority has been given to essential institutions like hospitals and hostels to continue their operations without interruption.
Center instructions
The Center has introduced guidelines whereby households in urban areas can get an LPG cylinder once in 25 days, rural households once in 45 days and households with dual cylinders once in 32 days.
They warn against the black marketing of LPG cylinders, they said that suggestions from the public are also invited to help solve the situation.
Officials informed that around 95% of LPG bookings were currently done online and around 88% of cylinder deliveries were done through OTP based authentication and that special control rooms have been set up at the Real Time Governance System (RTGS) center and collector’s district offices to closely monitor the situation.
Focus on the PNG extension
The government has also focused on expanding the use of pipeline natural gas (PNG) as an alternative source of energy, the ministers informed.
The meeting was attended by Civil Supplies Commissioner Saurabh Gaur, Director S Nupur Ajay Kumar, Director Information and Public Relations KS Viswanathan and senior officials and representatives of oil companies.
