Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Sunny Joseph said the government had launched a witch hunt against Shafi Parambila, MP, purely out of political enmity.
Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Mr. Joseph said that the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) was vindictive against Mr. Parambila ever since it lost the Vadakara Lok Sabha constituency to him and he was a thorn in the side because of his clear political stand and stellar work as an MP. The fact that they had no qualms about using the police to silence Mr. Parambil was clear evidence that the CPI(M) would do everything to “correct” Mr. Parambil. The KPCC president said the Congress would not be a mute witness.
He recalled CPI(M) leader EP Jayarajan and his threats against Mr. Parambila, adding that Mr. Jayarajan was a mere “speech worker” of the CPI(M).
subpoena ED
When the Enforcement Directorate (ED) issued summons to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s son, Mr. Joseph said both the ED and the Chief Minister should clarify their stand and that the BJP’s silence on the matter was a sign of a tacit understanding reached between the parties. He accused Mr. Vijayan of being evasive about summoning the ED, just as he had done when his daughter was accused of financial embezzlement. He questioned whether the summons was received at Cliff House and whether the chief minister’s son was cooperating with the investigation. Mr. Joseph said that even CPI(M) general secretary MA Baby had spoken about the “settlement” that had been reached with the ED. He alleged that the BJP’s silence on the matter was part of a so-called settlement and a wider deal to save the Prime Minister’s family members from punitive measures under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
On Sabarimala honey
Mr. Joseph criticized the government and the police for failing to recover the lost Sabarimala temple gold or arrest the culprits. Until now, it was not clear who is the holder of the gold. He said that the Congress is not keen on the investigation processes and that the party is organizing a massive protest rally with a large participation of people.
He also demanded a serious inquiry into the youth’s suicide, allegedly after being sexually assaulted at a camp organized by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.
The KPCC president said that the Congress is moving forward with vigorous organizational activity. As part of Mission 2025, home visits and leaflet campaigns were progressing across the state. More than 25,000 ward committees have already completed door-to-door visits as part of fundraising and awareness drives against the anti-people policies of the Union and state governments, he said.
