The Minister of irrigation N. Uttam Kumar Reddy announced on Monday that the TELANGANY government is considering the Institute of Water Association (Wuas) across the State, according to the decision of the main Minister A. Revant Reddy to ensure systematic maintenance and maintenance of irrigation tanks and channels.
The Minister chaired the audit meeting with higher officials and stated that the association could be created after the elections of the local body, starting with smaller irrigation tanks and gradually relating to larger projects. Each association would be supported by the Laskar staff and is proposed to appoint an officer of the irrigation department as a competition.
“The recent monsoon emphasized how some violations and maintenance failure could be prevented from liability mechanisms. The Association of Water Users will fill this gap and bring local responsibility to irrigation management,” said Uttam Kumar Reddy.
It was proposed that Wuas could be created after consultation with M. Kodanda Reddy, chairman and agriculture members in Telangana and providing agricultural social care to ensure a reasonable representation of farmers.
Officials recalled that after the abolition of Water Cess in 2018–19, there were many WUA only on paper, without funds or duties. The new system is proposed to provide them with staff and other support directed through the association. The Minister explained that smaller sources of irrigation, such as tanks and local channels, were often neglected, so it is vulnerable to violations during heavy rainfall. He said Wua would act as managers of these water bodies and ensure regular maintenance, preventive maintenance and timely response to repair needs.
The audit meeting also affected international coordination and project permits. Mr. Uttam ordered officials to strengthen this case in the Supreme Court against the Karnataka step to increase the almatti dam.
Mr. Uttam Kumar Reddy also asked for a revised DPR for Dr. Bedkar pranahita Chevella sujala Sravanthi (brapcss) in Thummidihatti. He also stated that the works on the tunnel of the SRISAILAM (SLBC) channel (SLBC) would be restored after the cabinet was cleared.
