Govt Firm on 50% Quota for Pharm D Admission: Minister

Health Minister K. Muraleedharan said the state government remains firm on its stand that it will not budge from its decision to reserve 50% seats for Pharm D (Doctor of Pharmacy) admissions on merit from this academic year. Challenging the government’s decision, the Kerala State Self Financing Pharmacy College Management Association approached the Supreme Court seeking permission to continue admissions to all Pharm D posts independently.

The health minister’s office said in a statement that the government’s decision to introduce a 50% merit quota is aimed at ensuring that meritorious students are not denied admission simply because they cannot afford the higher management admission fees.

Mr. Muraleedharan recently conducted a meeting with the representatives of the association during which the management reiterated its main demand. However, the minister hinted that the government could consider another demand raised by the association to convert any vacant merit seats after the recruitment process into the management quota.
