The government is determined to transform the state into a center of scientific progress, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said at the Vijnana Darshini meeting at Ravindra Bharathi on Friday.
Speaking as the chief guest at the 80th Scientific Temperament celebrations, he emphasized that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s administration is dedicated to developing scientific mindset across the state. The government aims to develop Telangana as a “laboratory for scientific development”, he said, adding that all cabinet ministers are well-educated and focused on making the state globally competitive in terms of innovation and growth.
He attributed India’s scientific foundations to Jawaharlal Nehru and stated that the nation’s current position would have been unimaginable without Nehru’s leadership as the first Prime Minister.
Reflecting on India’s early challenges after independence, he highlighted Nehru’s focus on agriculture, industry and a mixed economic policy, along with his promotion of scientific research through institutions such as the IITs, UGC and national laboratories. This vision, he said, laid the foundation for India’s democratic stability and technological progress.
“In the early 1980s, if I wanted to make a phone call, I had to go to Abids, book a call on a trunk and wait for hours. Today we are connected to the whole world through a mobile phone in the palm of our hand. That is the power of scientific progress,” he said. “If people were told to light lamps or clap their hands during disasters, this country would have gone astray,” he noted.
He noted that Nehru’s visionary policies made a peaceful transition of power possible after elections every five years. But he noted that companies become cursed when they are run by people without a vision.
Mr. Vikramarka outlined the ongoing initiatives such as setting up of Young India Integrated Residential Schools in each Assembly Constituency and upgrading ITIs to advanced technology centres.
He added that the upcoming Skill University will further boost the scientific temper in the emerging Future City of Telangana. He encouraged educational institutions to start science exhibitions and assured them full support from the government.
Nehru’s ideals of democracy and scientific progress remain the guiding force for India’s future, he said.
