Govt. called for speeding up work on the Sujala Sravanthi project

Senior BJP leader and Koppula Velama Corporation chairman Earle Sree Rama Murthy on Friday urged the state government to complete the Babu Jagjivan Ram Uttarandhra Sujala Sravanthi project to ensure dedicated Godavari water source for the united districts of Vizianagaram and Srikakulam.

He said the speedy completion of the project, at least by 2029, would provide great relief to farmers who have been facing untold miseries due to climate change, including this year’s El NiƱo effect. Speaking to The Hindu in Vizianagaram, Mr. Murthy said that 30 years ago he had conducted a detailed study on the Polavaram project and its benefits for the North Andhra region and submitted a detailed report to the government.

“As much as four lakh acres of land in Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts would get assured water facility if canals were given top priority. The state government should allocate more funds for the Uttarandhra Sujjala Sravanbthi project as it is not part of the Polavaram project funded by the Union government,” said Mr. Murthy, who visited an agricultural area in Andhra region, who visited an agricultural area in North region.
