In a major relief to the residents of Tirumala, the state government has cleared the way for reinforced concrete slab (RCC) construction of 541 houses in Balaji Nagar.
The issue was raised during question hour in the State Legislature by Jana Sena Party (JSP) MLA Arani Srinivasulu, who highlighted the hardship faced by local residents who lost their properties due to land acquisition for the Tirumala master plan.
Responding to the concerns, the government said an administrative penalty of ₹14 crore was being considered for starting the work. The tenders will be invited after the approval of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Board of Trustees.
The housing project, started in 2010 during the tenure of former Tirupati MLA and Prajarajyam party chief K. Chiranjeevi, remained incomplete, with only a few houses given RCC roofing, leaving the rest in precarious conditions.
With the government now speeding up the process, the long-pending works are expected to be completed within 18 months. The goal of the project is to provide families in the temple city with safe and permanent housing.
Residents welcomed the move and expressed hope that the delayed works would eventually be completed on time and their living conditions would improve.
