The Andhra Pradesh State Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Wednesday termed the governor’s address to the joint session of the state legislature as disappointing and said it reflected a bleak vision of Andhra Pradesh’s future.

In a statement issued here, CPI(M) state secretary V. Srinivasa Rao said the speech did not address several critical issues concerning the state. He pointed out that there was no mention of pending funds and statutory dues owed by the Center to Andhra Pradesh, nor any mention of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, which he described as a symbol of people’s pride. The plight of families displaced by the Polavaram project was also ignored, he said.

Mr. Srinivasa Rao alleged that despite the Center weakening federal principles by encroaching on states’ rights, the state government has failed to raise its voice firmly. He further said that the speech failed to acknowledge the additional financial burden imposed on the people in the last 19 months, cases of forced land acquisition, broken promises and rising unemployment.

He noted the absence of any reference to tenant farmers, the Annadata Sukhibhav scheme and the long-pending Wage Revision Commission benefits for employees and pensioners. The government has also been criticized for pushing for privatization in the education and health sectors, which he says has put students’ futures in jeopardy. There have also been allegations of growing political corruption.

The CPI(M) leader accused the coalition government of delivering less while promising more during its nearly two-year tenure. He said several of Super Six’s widely publicized guarantees remained unfulfilled, including a promise of ₹1,500 per month to women. While the speech emphasized job creation for the youth, it claimed that only a nominal number of jobs had been created, with no mention of job security or protection of workers’ rights.

The statement also highlighted the lack of wage revision for Anganwadi and ASHA workers, absence of welfare fund provision for construction workers and failure to provide special allocations or fulfill assurances made to Dalits, Tribals, Minorities and Backward Classes. It claimed that although golden families were identified under the P 4 initiative, the assistance was not being implemented.

The CPI(M) leader further described the claims regarding Amaravati construction, industrial growth, water resources, quantum technology and urban development as empty. He claimed that though the government claimed to have reduced electricity tariffs by 13 Paise, it collected more than ₹15,000 crore from consumers in additional electricity charges.

Despite claims of digital governance through blockchain and QR code technologies, farmers’ concerns about land record registration irregularities remained unaddressed, he said.

Big declarations without implementation cannot bring development, Mr. Srinivasa Rao said, adding that the Governor’s speech had disappointed the people.
