The Governor of West Bengal CV Ananda Bose on Wednesday (August 27, 2025) removed Professor Pabitra Chatopadyay as Vice -President of the University of Gour Bang with immediate effect on duty and corruption fees, said official Raj Bhavan on Wednesday (August 27, 2025).
Directive from Governor, as well as Chancellor of State Tra bathing, came days after the university inspector of universities accused the professor of the required money to cover legal expenses.
Prof. Chattopadyay, professor of chemistry, accused denied.
“The authorization granted to Professor Pabitr Chatopadyay to perform powers and fulfillment of the duties of the Vice -President of the University of Gour Bang according to the Chancellor’s Regulation is with immediate effect,” PTI said.
The university inspector filed cases at the High Court in Calcutta on alleged discrepancies and claimed that the Provisional VC demanded the amount of £ 3 lakh to cover legal expenses.
“Such accusation is serious. We cannot have a person in the position of VC who has been charged with the request for money. This step was taken to be clean in West Bengal,” said official Raj Bhavan.
It was planned that the convening of Varsity 25 was held, but was canceled on the instructions of the Ministry of Education of the West Bengal Government.
“The Chancellor took a firm attitude that the government has no power to interfere with the autonomy of universities and ordered that convening should be held as planned.
Mr. Bose appointed Chattopadyay as a official Chancellor Gour Bang University after he selected him from the list of state candidates in April 2024.
Since 2017, the university has remained suspended, allegedly due to the problems between the state government and the governor’s office.
