Kerala Raj Bhavan wrote on APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU) and Digital University Keral (DKU), which sought payment for the legal costs incurred in the ongoing case of the Supreme Court concerning the appointment of the Chancellor at both universities.
Raj Bhavan ordered both universities to release 11 lakh to the fee of lawyers.
The amount concerns the expenditures created during the first of August 2025, when Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Alelekar, who also serves as a Chancellor of the University, argued in the Supreme Court. These cases were filed by a governor who questioned the role of the state government in the process of appointing vice -chairwoman at state universities.
Legal procedures
Raj Bhavan’s letter claims that the costs of legal proceedings should be carried by universities because the litigation concerns their administrative functioning. Each university was ordered to pay 5.5 Lakh to clean the remark of the fees provided by the Indian prosecutor and the advocate in connection with the petitions given “for and the name” of the Chancellor of the University.
The only bench and the divisional bench of the High Court in Kerala previously ruled in favor of the State Government regarding appointment. Subsequently, the governor questioned judgments at the Supreme Court.
