Several dignitaries and members of the public visited the Sammakka-Saralamma Maha Jatara in Medaram on Friday and offered prayers.
Governor Jishnu Dev Verma paid obeisance to the presiding deities and those who visited the temple included Endowments Minister Konda Surekha, former Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya and a number of legislators.
Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister Danasari Anasuya Seethakka accompanied by her family had darshan of the goddess. MPs and legislators, including Balram Naik, Pinapaka MLA Payam Venkateswarlu, Secunderabad Cantonment MLA Ganesh and Bhupalpalli MLA Gandra Satyanarayana participated in the rituals.
Telangana President Jagruthi K. Kavitha also visited the temple and offered prayers. DGP B. Shivadhar Reddy and Director General of Prisons Soumya Mishra also offered their prayers.
British Deputy High Commissioner Gareth Wynn Owen also visited the tribal shrine and offered prayers. Dressed in traditional handwoven clothing, he participated in the Thulabaram ritual.
Mrs. Seethakka and Mr. Divakara informed him about the significance of the Jatara and the arrangements made for the devotees. The minister also explained the features of the newly constructed shrine buildings.
