Food Minister of Pralhad Joshi has asked the industry of edible oil to be rapid to achieve the benefits of reducing duties on raw edible oils to consumers to ensure that consumers are experiencing a corresponding reduction in retail prices. On Thursday (July 24, 2025), he addressed a meeting with a round table organized by the Indian Association of vegetable oil producers (IVPA).
Mr. Joshi asked IVPA members to focus on adding values through processing and refining, supporting innovations to increase efficiency and productivity.
He said that industrial sectors can cooperate with primary agricultural credit companies and organizations producing farmers to actively support accurate agriculture, artificial crop management, sustainable agricultural technology, support high-yield oil varieties and strengthened post-incomplete value chain. He said that through political innovations, increased investments in agricultural technologies and public and private sector cooperation, India can remain competitive in the global plant oil market while ensuring household needs.
The Minister said that in the last ten years the production of oilseeds in 2023-24 increased by 44% of 275 metric tons Lakh (LMT) to 1,314 in 2023-24. “The export of oil foods, oilseeds and small oils amounted to about 5.44 million tonnes of 29,587 GBP in the financial year,” India said today at a critical intersection in a global edible oil trade, one of the largest consumers and vegetable oils. “We import about 56% of our edible oil requirements,” he said.
The Minister of Food Sanjeev Chopra told reporters on the secondary dormitory that the Union’s government will announce a new order to regulate vegetable oil products with modern, transparent and technologically advanced provisions. The secretary will replace the order for the production and availability of 2025 vegetable oils, he said that 2011 will replace. “The association has been consulted. It is now in the final stages, probably will be announced by the next week,” Chopra said.
